What does the Jailer believe which allows him to isolate us in this way?
The Jailer believes that a 'real man' keeps 'his woman' in the home. He knows that isolating women is normal, not abusive behaviour. Women are like pets and need to be kept in and controlled. Women cannot be trusted to go out alone.
The Jailer knows that women need to be controlled sexually and if we go out alone we will shag every man we see. He knows that all women are 'slags'.
He also knows that we are only really useful for CFCs and we cannot be trusted. He believes that men own women and that we are his property.
The Jailer also believes that women cannot do real work. Our wages are always 'pin money'. He will believe this even when we earn far more money than he does (Cognitive Dissonance again!). The Jailer knows that it is natural for women to be kept and that men are breadwinners. He will believe this even if he is unemployed and living off our wages. (More Cognitive Dissonance!).
Men on the Freedom Programme have been heard to say that the secret of a successful marriage is to, "keep her pregnant and hide her shoes."
